Quick Answer
The Password tab in DentalOS Manage security settings lets Super Admins configure mandatory re-authentication intervals, password recovery by email, account lockout thresholds, and password expiration. These options are only available when self-service password reset is turned on.
Applies To
Product: DentalOS
Plan: All plans
Role: Super Admin
Before You Begin
- You must have Super Admin access to change these settings.
- Open Manage security settings and select the 'Password' tab. See "DentalOS security settings overview" for how to open it.
Steps
- Navigate to 'Manage security settings' and click the 'Password' tab.
→ You will see: the Security configurations panel with the Password tab active, showing all password settings.
- Click 'Edit Configuration' to make changes.
- Review or update each setting as needed. The table below describes every option on this tab.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Self-service password reset | Turns self-service password reset on or off for all users. See "Password policy and self-service password reset". |
| Mandatory re-authentication | Sets the interval, in days, for how often users must re-authenticate. When self-service password reset is off, this field shows "Not enforced by default." |
| Password recovery | Lets users recover their password by email. |
| Password complexity | Shows the minimum password length (12). Requirements for numbers and special characters are managed by your identity provider and are not set here. |
| Account lockout | Sets the number of failed sign-in attempts before an account is locked. The default shown is 5. |
| Password expiration | When selected, requires users to change their password every 1 year. |
- Save your changes.
When Self-Service Password Reset Is Off
When self-service password reset is turned off, the re-authentication, password recovery, account lockout, and password expiration options are unavailable and appear greyed out. Turn self-service password reset back on to use them.
Note: These settings apply to every user in your organization. There are no exemptions.
If a user is locked out, ask an administrator to unlock the account. See "Troubleshooting: a user can't sign in to DentalOS".
Expected Result
When complete, the Password tab reflects your saved configuration. If self-service password reset is on and all intended options are active, the setup is working. If the re-authentication, recovery, lockout, or expiration options appear greyed out, self-service password reset is turned off. Turn it on to make those options available.
