Quick Answer
To set up multi-factor authentication (MFA) in DentalOS, go to My Organization > Manage security settings, open the 'MFA' tab, enable the toggle, and select at least one authentication method. MFA applies to every user in your organization with no exemptions.
Applies To
Product: DentalOS
Plan: All plans
Role: Admin
Before You Begin
- Every user must have an email address on their user record if you choose the Email method, or they will not be able to sign in.
- Every user must have a phone number on their user record if you choose the SMS method.
- If you choose the Authenticator app method, every user must install Microsoft Authenticator on their device before they can complete enrollment.
Steps
- Select 'My Organization', then select 'Manage security settings'.
- Select the 'MFA' tab.
- If the settings are not editable, select 'Edit Configuration'.
- Turn on the 'Enable MFA' toggle.
- Under 'MFA methods', select at least one authentication method: 'Email', 'SMS', or 'Authenticator app'.
Notes on each method:
- Email: Every user must have an email address on their user record, or they cannot sign in.
- SMS: Every user must have a phone number on their user record so they can enroll and sign in.
- Authenticator app: Users receive a QR code and are prompted to set up this method the next time they sign in to DentalOS. Users must install Microsoft Authenticator on their device. The app then sends push notifications to secure later sign-ins, and users can also enter the code from the app.
| Note: MFA applies to every user in your organization. There are no exemptions. |
Expected Result
When complete, the 'Enable MFA' toggle will show as enabled and at least one method will be checked under 'MFA methods'. MFA is now active for all users in your organization. If the method checkboxes remain unavailable, confirm that the 'Enable MFA' toggle is turned on, as the method options are unavailable while MFA is off.
If a user gets a new phone number or email address, see "Manage a user's MFA enrollment".
