Some keyboard characters have special meaning in software systems and can cause Denticon to behave unexpectedly when they are entered into data fields. If these characters are typed into a patient name, nickname, or other field, Denticon may misread the information and produce errors.
Recommendation: Avoid using special characters in any Denticon field. Even one character in a single patient record can affect the entire system.
What You Might See
Users may experience any of the following:
- An Error 404 message when trying to access a page or patient
- A patient record that will not load or cannot be found
- The appointment scheduler not working — for any patient, not just one
- Progress notes that cannot be saved
- Restortaive Chart not loading/saving
Characters to Avoid
Do not use any of the following characters in patient names, nicknames, statement settings, or any other field in Denticon: < > ~ ( ) [ ] @ , "
| < | > | ~ | ( | ) | [ | ] | @ | , | " |
These characters are used by software to signal specific actions. When Denticon sees them in a data field, it may not process the information the way you intended.

- Patient first and last name
- Patient nickname or preferred name
- Office settings
