Pre-existing dental conditions may be “drawn” in the charting module.
In the patient window, users may access the restorative charting section in two ways –
(1) Click the word “Charting” and choose the desired chart option from the drop-down box – “Advanced Charting”
(2) Click the white crown tooth icon in the picture toolbar
The Pre-Existing tab is the default presentation in the restorative charting screen.
There are four tooth areas for selection. The button selections on the right will change according to the tooth area selected.
o A whole tooth may be selected by clicking on the white area outside the drawing of the tooth. Selections for whole tooth related procedures are indicated on the buttons.
o Roots may be selected by clicking on a root of a tooth. If the tooth has more than one root, a popup window will ask if the user wishes to fill in all the roots of the selected tooth. Selections for root related procedures are indicated on the buttons.
o Crowns may be selected by clicking on the crown area of a tooth. Selections for crown related procedures are indicated on the buttons.
o Surfaces may be selected by clicking on the desired surface area of a tooth. Selections for whole tooth related procedures are indicated on the buttons.
Multiple selections of the same tooth area may be indicated provided the final selection is also the same. Example: if all four third molars should be indicated as missing, the whole tooth selection for 1-16-17-32 may be chosen. Once highlighted by a frame around the tooth, the Missing button may be selected, and Permanent may be chosen.
If an indicated treatment has an option to indicate a specific material, a drop down selection box will appear. The user should select the material that is presented in the patient’s dentition.
Indicated pre-existing conditions are drawn in the tab’s color. The conditions are listed in the analog list at the bottom of the screen.
If a condition should be deleted, the user may highlight the entry in the analog list and click the Delete button.
Note: Specific procedures are not selected in the pre-existing chart. Rather, the material and type of restoration or condition that is present in the patient’s dentition is recorded.
