Introduction:
Dentures chart differently based on the age of the patient in Denticon's Restorative Chart. This article will review how charting works by Permanent and Primary Dentitions and how to best post your charts based on what you are looking to achieve.
Key features:
- For Permanent Dentition (Ages 11 or older)
- If ten(10) or more than ten(10) teeth of maxillary (upper arch) is selected, then it will be full denture.
- If ten(10) or more than ten(10) teeth of mandibular (lower arch) is selected, then it will be full denture.
- Otherwise it’s partial denture.
- For Primary Dentition (Ages younger than 11)
- If eight(8) or more than eight(8) teeth of maxillary (upper arch) is selected, then it will be full denture.
- If eight(8) or more than eight(8) teeth of mandibular (lower arch) is selected, then it will be full denture.
- Otherwise it’s partial denture.
Technical specifications:
- The Restorative Chart won't allow you to chart a Partial Denture code for more than 9 teeth on a Permanent Dentition, or 7 teeth on a Primary Dentition.
- When selecting options when charting in the Pre-Existing, Completed, and TxPlans tabs, if you've selected 10+ teeth on a Permanent Dentition or 8+ teeth on a Primary Dentition in the Restorative Chart, you will only see a selection for Full Denture under the Pre-Existing, Completed, and TxPlans tabs' Denture button.
Best Practices:
- What can I do I need to know about charting Partial Dentures?
- If you are looking for purely visually correct charting on the Pre-Existing tab of the Restorative Chart, we recommend selecting the sections in portions.
- Ex. Teeth # 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8 on one selection, and Teeth # 9, 10, & 11 on a separate selection.
- If you are in need of creating a Treatment Plan for a patient and want all teeth on a single code, you can being the charting on the TxPlans tab of the Restorative Chart with up to 9 teeth. After posting the code to the treatment plan, you can access the dropdown menu for Transactions > Treatment Plan to select Diag Date of the treatment to add more teeth as desired.
- Please note this will prevent the Partial Denture code from displaying in the TxPlans or Completed tab of the Restorative Chart.
- If you are looking for purely visually correct charting on the Pre-Existing tab of the Restorative Chart, we recommend selecting the sections in portions.
- You can combine these techniques to get the best results for your charting of Partial Dentures:
- Under Transactions > Treatment Plan, add a Partial Denture code and the teeth that the doctor will need to treat. (Ex. D5213 with Teeth #1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, & 11)
- When the treatment is completed, return to Transactions > Treatment Plan, select the check box of the treatment, and press Post To Ledger.
- Access the patient's Pre-Existing tab of the Restorative Chart and select the teeth the denture was made for in selections of 9 teeth or less for Permanent Dentitions and 7 teeth or less for Primary Dentitions. (Ex. Teeth # 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, & 8 on one selection and Teeth # 9, 10, & 11 on a separate selection.)
- Finally, select the Denture button and select the Partial button. Repeat as needed with each selection.
