Introduction:
When an insurance plan is detached from a patient, there is still a record of the plan attached to the responsible party. This record allows users to see a history of all plans that have been attached to members of the account. In Denticon, an insurance plan cannot be deleted if it is attached to a patient or a responsible party.
Process description:
When attempting to delete an insurance plan that is attached to a responsible party, you will see an error ""Cannot delete insurance plan (plan is assigned to responsible party)", followed by the name of the responsible party. From there, you'll need to search for and select the responsible party, access the account plan history, then select and remove the plan you are trying to delete from the system. Once the plan has been removed from all responsible parties associated with the plan, you will be able to delete it from the system completely.
Prerequisites:
To delete a plan from the system you will need the security right "Patient-Insurance Plan Information Screen Full Control" as well as "Setup-Insurance Plans Screen Full Control".
Step-by-step instructions:
- Go to Setup>Insurance>Insurance Plans.
- Select plan you want to delete, then click the "Delete Plan" button.
- Review error message that occurs to see the name of the responsible party the plan is attached to.
- Search for the responsible party using the Patient/Responsible Party search tool.
- Selecting the appropriate responsible party will bring you to the Patient Overview screen for a member of the account.
- Click either the link labeled "Primary" or the link labeled "Secondary", to go to the Add/Edit Insurance Plan screen
- In the search section set the field "Search In" to "Account Plans", then click the "Search" button.
- This will launch a pop-up showing all plans that have been historically attached to the account.
- Select the plan and click the "Delete" button.
Tips and best practices:
Currently, Denticon does not provide a report for historical plans that are not actively linked to a patient. If multiple responsible parties are associated with a plan, you will need to repeat the process above until the error with the responsible party name is resolved.
