It is assumed you wish to enter the full amount that was received from the insurance carrier.
Access the patient’s record.
Click the word “Transactions” and choose the “Insurance Payment” option from the drop-down box.
Outstanding insurance claims that have been submitted through Denticon will appear in the middle of the screen. Select the desired claim. Items for payment for that claim appear at the bottom of the screen.
If a note is desired, enter the text in the Notes field.
If there are more than one procedure for which to record payment, complete the amount of payment per treatment item in the New Amt column. The Payment Amount field will be automatically calculated from these entries.
If there is only one procedure for which to record payment, the payment amount may be place in the Payment Amount field.
When the user attempts to enter an amount for the procedure that is greater than the remaining (or estimated) amount, a popup window appears in the screen. The message in the window essentially inquires of the user if the entered amount is what should be recorded rather than the anticipated insurance amount.
Read the question carefully to fully understand what the question is asking, and how to answer the question.
If all items on the claim have been paid, a check mark should be placed in the box at Close Claim. If all the procedures have not been paid, deselect the mark so the remaining items can be properly allocated for payment.
Click the Apply button.
The amount of insurance overpayment will automatically adjust the patient’s estimated portion of the ledger balance. The overpayment will diminish the estimated patient portion.
If the office wishes to allow the patient benefit of the overpayment, no additional entries are necessary.
If the office wishes not to allow the patient benefit of the overpayment, the office will need to manually enter an adjustment to add a specific financial amount back to the patient’s responsibility through the payments/adjustments section of the Transactions/Transaction Entry screen.
