Overview
Pick Lists allow users to select from a predefined set of responses rather than entering the same information repeatedly. This improves efficiency, consistency, and accuracy when documenting notes—especially for commonly used entries such as teeth numbers, quadrants, or materials.
Pick Lists work in conjunction with Notes Macros, where they serve as selectable response options within prompted questions
How to Set Up a Pick List
Step 1: Navigate to Pick List Settings
- Go to Setup
- Select Pick List

Step 2: Create a New Pick List
- Enter a Description to identify the purpose of the list.
- Configure the following options:

Multi-Select
- Enable this option if users should be able to select more than one response.

Active

Ensure this is checked so the Pick List is available for use.

Step 3: Add List Items
- Enter a value in the Add New Item field.
- Click Add to include it in the list.
- Repeat as needed to build out the response options.

Step 4: Organize List Items
- Use the arrow controls next to each item to adjust the display order.
Step 5: Save
- Click Save once all updates are complete.

How to Use a Pick List in a Notes Macro
To incorporate a Pick List into a Notes Macro for use within a patient’s Progress Notes:
- Navigate to Setup
- Select Notes Macros
- Click Add Macro or Edit Macro
- Place your cursor where the prompt should appear
- Click Add Question
- Enter the desired question prompt
- Check the Pick List option
- Select the appropriate Pick List
- Click Add Question
- Click Save
Key Notes
- Pick Lists reduce manual entry and help standardize frequently used responses.
- Only Active Pick Lists will appear in Notes Macros.
- If updates are made to a Pick List, ensure the associated macro is saved to reflect changes. [
- Pick Lists are most effective when paired with well-structured Notes Macros to streamline documentation workflows.
Troubleshooting:
If Pick List options are not displaying correctly, please try the following:
- Clear the browser cache.
- Log into Denticon on Microsoft Edge and try to recreate the note to see if the picklist generates.
- Try creating a different macro with the same pick list.
- Create a new picklist with the same options.
