To indicate an existing patient as a referral source within a separate patient record:

- Access the patient’s record
- Click the Edit button within the “Patient Information” section
- Within the “Referral Type” field, select the referral type “Patient.” NOTE: In some dental office accounts, the option may be “Family/Friend” instead of “Patient”.
- Click the blue/white arrow at the "Referred By" field
- Input the desired name in the search field
- Click the Search button to locate an already-setup referral
- Click to select the desired referral source
- Click the Select button
- Click the Save button
If the desired referral source does not appear in the search returns:

- Click the Add Referral button
- Indicate the correct referral method within the “Referred by/To” field
- Select the referral type “Patient” (or “Family/Friend”) which is extremely important in order to associate the correct type for the referral source. NOTE: If both the “Patient” and “Family/Friend” (or similar) options appear as selectable options, Denticon advises to use the “Patient” selection.
- The "search for a patient" button will be an active selection (black text on the button).
- Click the Search for a patient button
- Input the patient's last name in the "lastname" field, and click the search button to locate matching patient records
- Select the desired patient record
- Click the Select button
- Add referral information as desired
- Click the Demographics >> button
- If custom demographics have been in put via “Setup / Referrals / Custom Demographics,” input the desired demographic information
- Click the Save button
NOTE: For the Search for a patient button to be available for selection you must go to Setup>Misc Setup>Basic >Referral Types, then place a check mark in the patient box
Once entered, the referral source is available for any patient record by searching the “Patient” (or “Family/Friend”) referral type.
