Whenever a referral source is added, it must be associated to the correct referral type.
If the referral source is not associated with the correct type:
- the referral source cannot be easily located for association to the patient record
- the referral source will not retain in the patient record
Referral sources are added to an office’s account:
- Click the word “Setup” and choose the “Referrals” and “Referrals” options from the drop-down box
- Click the Add New Referral button

In the “Referred by/To:” field:
- If the referral source only refers patients to your office, select the “Referred By” option
- If your office only refers patients to the referral source, select the “Referred To” option
- If your office and the referral source share referrals both ways, select the “Both” option
- Ensure the “Type” field is correctly associated with the referral source
- Click the Demographics >> button
- If you have setup custom demographics in your office account, complete the screen
- Click the Save button
NOTE: For the Search for a patient button to be available for selection when adding a new referral, you must go to Setup>Misc Setup>Basic >Referral Types, then place a check mark in the patient referral box
