This article explains the hygiene-specific performance metrics available in the Denticon Practice Analytics (DPA) Hygiene Recall dashboard.
Hygiene Retention Rate
The Hygiene Retention Rate measures the percentage of hygiene patients from 12 months ago who returned for hygiene services within the following 12 months.
- Tracks distinct patients, not visit counts.
- Qualifying return visit codes: D1110, D1120, or D4910.
- Broken down by patient type:
- Child: D1120
- Prophy: D1110, D4355
- SRP: D4341, D4342
- Perio: D4355, D4910
Important: This is a rolling 12-month look-back metric. Short date ranges will not produce meaningful results.
Hygiene Reappointment %
This metric measures the percentage of patients who had a hygiene appointment and already have a future hygiene appointment scheduled.
- Hygiene procedure codes tracked: D4341, D4342, D1120, D4910, D1110, D4355
Adjunctive Therapy %
Adjunctive Therapy % shows the percentage of hygiene patients who received supplemental (adjunctive) therapy during their visit. The Hygiene Recall dashboard also breaks this down by therapy type:
- Fluoride/Varnish %: Codes D1206 or D1208
- Laser/Miscellaneous Perio %: Codes D4999 or D7465
- Irrigation %: Code D4921
- Arestin %: Code D4381
Note: For DPA to accurately track these metrics, hygienists must use the exact ADA codes listed above. Custom or non-standard codes will not be recognized.
How to Track Patients Overdue for Hygiene Recall
- Open the Hygiene Recall dashboard.
- Click Open next to the Missed Recall Details report to see patients who are due for hygiene recall but have not yet scheduled.
- Alternatively, open the Patient Visit Analysis dashboard to identify Danger Zone patients (last visit 12–24 months ago) who need outreach.
- Use the Front Office dashboard's Recall Due Report recommendation when provider utilization is low.
