This article helps support teams and office administrators resolve common issues with hygiene metrics in the Denticon Practice Analytics (DPA) Hygiene Recall dashboard.
Hygiene Retention Rate Seems Unusually Low
Likely Cause
The Hygiene Retention Rate is a rolling 12-month look-back metric. It counts patients from 12 months ago and checks whether they returned within the following 12 months. If the practice recently had a large patient base change, or the selected date range is too short, the metric may appear low. The calculation uses distinct patient counts, not visit counts.
Resolution Steps
- Confirm the date range is set correctly — this metric requires a sufficient time window to be meaningful.
- Remind the user that short date ranges will not produce meaningful Hygiene Retention results.
- Check that hygiene procedure codes are being used correctly in Denticon. Qualifying codes are: D4341, D4342, D1120, D4910, D1110, D4355.
Adjunctive Therapy % Shows as 0% Even Though Fluoride Is Being Applied
Likely Cause
The fluoride codes entered in Denticon may not match the ADA codes that DPA tracks. DPA recognizes only these specific adjunctive codes:
- Fluoride/Varnish: D1206 or D1208
- Laser/Miscellaneous Perio: D4999 or D7465
- Irrigation: D4921
- Arestin: D4381
Resolution Steps
- Verify that fluoride/varnish procedures are being entered with codes D1206 or D1208.
- Check whether custom codes are being used that DPA does not recognize.
- Work with the clinical team to standardize ADA code usage across the practice.
