This article explains how to change the date range in Denticon Practice Analytics (DPA) dashboards and how to interpret the comparison period metrics shown alongside each KPI.
How to Change the Date Range on a Dashboard
- Locate the Date Range Selector on the dashboard you are viewing.
- Choose one of the available options:
- Yesterday — compares performance to the same day in the prior week.
- MTD (Month to Date) — the default view; compares to the prior month's same period (Month over Month).
- YTD (Year to Date) — compares to the same period in the prior year.
- Some dashboards (such as the Collections A/R report) also offer an As of Date option for a single point-in-time view.
- The dashboard will update automatically once you select your desired range.
Understanding Comparison Metrics
% vs. MOM (Month over Month)
The % vs. MOM comparison shows how the current month's performance (MTD) compares to the same MTD period in the previous month.
- Formula: ((Current MTD Value − Prior Month MTD Value) ÷ Prior Month MTD Value) × 100
- If the prior month value is $0, DPA uses 1 as the denominator to prevent division errors.
YTD Comparison (Year over Year)
The YTD comparison shows current year-to-date performance against the same period in the prior year.
- Formula: ((Current YTD − Prior Year YTD) ÷ Prior Year YTD) × 100
- Available on most dashboards when the YTD date range option is selected.
Color Coding Reference
Many DPA metrics use a consistent color-coding system to flag performance at a glance:
- Green: On target (e.g., Collections % > 95%, Reappointment % > 95%)
- Yellow: Needs attention (e.g., Collections % 85–95%, Reappointment % 85–95%)
- Red: Critical (e.g., Collections % < 85%, A/R aging 91–120+ days)
- N/A: Displayed when a value is $0 in A/R Aging or Claims Aging buckets — this is intentional and not an error.
