When scanning and/or uploading document files within a patient’s Notes screen, the screen message states the file size and format limitations so that there is an understanding of the programmed function.
The user may reduce the file size in these manners:
- scan fewer pages in one document
- scan using a different file type (i.e., from png to jpg)
- change the file format when saving (i.e., from png to jpg)
- save the file as a pdf instead of an image (i.e., png, jpg, tif, gif)
- reduce the dpi of the scanned document
- scan in a lower resolution (i.e., a scan at 600 dpi results in a much larger file than at 300 dpi)
- scan in black/white rather than color (i.e., color and grayscale files result in much larger files than black and white files)
- consider the size of the original scanned document (i.e., a legal-size scan will be larger than a letter-size scan, with all other factors being equal)
Example:
- Four (4) pages of letter size (8.5” x 11”), Full Color, 600 DPI png scan, with low compression may be over 24 Megabytes (24 MB) in file size
- The same file scanned in black/white with 200 DPI pdf scan settings may reduce the file size to less than 2 Megabytes (2 MB)
NOTE: Scanning and uploading are a function of the office’s scanner and computer setting. The settings are not within the Denticon program. The alteration(s) of file size and format are done within the office’s scanner settings. The office should consult the Owner’s Manual for the office’s scanner in order to determine how to change the scanner’s file saving settings. The office’s local IT group will be able to assist the office with scanner settings for the office’s scanner hardware.
