Overview
Code Bundling is a new capability in Denticon's SAGE estimation engine that automatically groups procedure codes according to payer billing rules before calculating patient estimates. When payers treat certain combinations of codes as a single billable unit, SAGE now reflects that — producing estimates that align with what the payer will actually reimburse, rather than treating each code as an independent line item.
The problem it solves
When procedures are billed individually that a payer considers bundled, the payer reimburses only the composite amount — not the sum of each individual code. If SAGE calculates an estimate based on unbundled codes, the estimate overstates what insurance will cover, which leads to patient balances that are larger and more surprising than expected.
Correcting these estimates manually adds staff effort and introduces billing risk, since inconsistent corrections can create compliance exposure and erode patient trust when final balances differ significantly from quoted estimates.
How it works
When SAGE generates a patient estimate, it now checks the procedure codes in the treatment plan against the payer's bundling rules before calculating coverage. Codes that the payer treats as a bundle are grouped automatically, and the estimate is calculated based on the bundled reimbursement rate rather than the sum of individual code rates.
