One of my insurance carriers – example: Blue Cross Blue Shield FEP (Federal Employee Program) – has two fee schedules, one for ages to 13 and another for ages over 13. How can I make sure the patient gets the charged the correct amounts?

Both fee schedules should be entered. Name one schedule “BCBS FEP 0-13” and the other “BCBS FEP over 13”.

Similarly, two insurance carriers should be entered. In the same way as the fee schedules, name one carrier as “BCBS FEP 0-13” and the other “BCBS FEP over 13”.

Attach the appropriate fee schedule to the appropriate plan.

Both plans can be attached to one patient account. Assign the correct plan to each covered patient, determined by the age of the patient.

For example, the parents on the account will be attached to the “BCBS FEP over 13” plan. Dependents who have not reached the 13th birthday would be attached to the “BCBS FEP 0-13” plan.

Once a child reaches the 13th birthday, the relationship for the “BCBS FEP 0-13” plan should be changed to “None”. The “BCBS FEP over 13” plan and schedule would be attached and the appropriate relationship to the subscriber would be indicated.
