Initial Setup for XVCapture
After installing the VatechPanCeph3DUpgrader into XVCapture’s Directory immediately go to Advanced User Tools > Preferences > Imaging Extensions > VatechPanCeph3D > Hardware Settings and set the Vatech Capture Application to the capture exe usually found in C:\VCaptureSW\Exe\ and then save.
Go to the Control Panel in the Vatech Interface and then go to the “General Tab” and set all “Link Type” to “SDK Link”
Go to Pano/Ceph/CBCT and make sure the PANO default is set to Normal and not “Magic Pan” as Magic Pan has been known to cause crashes.
Vatech Options
Vatech Options Password is Vatech
Pano fails to return from Vatech interface
If images won’t save, change ALL modality dropdowns in the general tab to make it “SDK Link”
Vatech Pano/CT Test Program
Exposure of a patient is not required for capture of a Vatech panoramic or CT image. The Vatech interface has a built in reconstruction tool to recall recently taken images.
-
Start by readying the unit up for capture. When the interface appears, select the modality you wish to test on the upper right side of the window (MODEL unsupported).
-
Depending on the version of the software select the stacked frames icon on the left or top right to start a manual reconstruction.
-
Select a KNOWN GOOD CBCT volume from the applicable list and select “Reconstruction”.
The outcome of the capture will be as if an image was just captured so continue with prompts as they appear. Ignore any instruction for pressing any exposure buttons.
Patient Name Incorrect in Vatech Interface
Ensure the section is set as shown above
Environment.ini / PaxPrimo.ini could not be found
Verify the EXACT path for VCaptureSW/NCSW_2012.exe
This needs to be within the Exe folder of the C:\VCaptureSW
XVCapture looks at the parent directory of the executable for those ini files
Vatech Pan Capture not working
Newer drivers seem to have the capture exe name changed to C:\VCaptureSW\Exe\VCaptureSW.exe
XV will not recognize this and will give an outputini error
Copying and renaming the exe to C:\VCaptureSW\Exe\NCSW_2012.exe (C:\VCaptureSW for XV4) will correct this behavior.
Manually Process 3D Acquisition Button
Update to at least build 3 of the Vatech 3D extension
Configuring XVCapture to display CTs in Ez3D-i
Verify the VatechPanCeph3D extension is installed and on the latest version (build 11.0.0.3)
Navigate to Advanced User Tools > Preferences > Imaging Extensions > Digital x-ray image capture > VatechPanCeph3D.IXDLL > Hardware Settings
-
Set the Vatech Capture Application path and Vatech Viewing Application path as shown below:
-
Capture & View PCs:
-
Viewing only PCs:
-
If the client is using Vatech’s new platform, called CleverOne, set the Set the Vatech Capture Application path and Vatech Viewing Application path as shown below instead:
-
Click OK, then navigate to Images and Image Handling. Scroll down to subsection labeled CT Volume Viewing Options.
Set How Should CT volumes be displayed? to “By a specific IXDLL”
-
Set Which IXDLL should be used? to “VatechPanCeph3D.IXDLL”
Click OK to go back to XVCapture’s home screen.
When viewing a CT, the CT should appear as a blue box with “CT Volume” displayed in the center if the above was done correctly. Double-click the blue box to display the CT volume within Ez3D-i.
TWAIN Image not saving
If the Image won't save in TWAIN environment, you might need to switch the Environment.iní files around by renaming the Environment.ini to Environment_sdk.ini and changing Environment_twain.ini to Environment.ini under C:\VcaputreSW\SettingsFiles.
Vatech CTs not returning to program - Acquisition outputs to different folder
Right click > properties on VCaptureSW/NCSW2012 executable. Usually located in C:\VCaptureSW or C:\VCaptureSW\EXE. Example here.
Customer must Downgrade their Ez3D-I version to anything before:
since IS(V.1.1.1.1 BN0001)_In_SW(V1.1.1.1 BN0001) version
These were the reported last good versions:
IS(V.1.1.0.1 BN0005)_In_SW(V1.1.0.1 BN0004),
IS(V.1.1.0.0 BN1012)_In_SW(V1.1.0.0 BN1006),
https://planetdds.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/400581
The exception to the rule of needing to downgrade to version 1.1.0.0 is the Smart Plus (Serial numbers 069-xxxxx). This model CANNOT be downgraded. The office can do Pano and Ceph from the TWAIN extension but, CTs will have to be taken into EzDent-i and exported.
Newer Vatech Not Returning CBCT (Crashing XVCapture)
In the case of the above Vatech Pano/CBCT machine (PaX-i3D Green), the office was having issues with an image returning at the higher Field of View (FOV). Selecting the 120x90 FOV on the right-hand side of the CBCT capture window within the Vatech software appeared to resolve the issue. See below for selectable FOV options:
Per https://planetdds.zendesk.com/agent/tickets/266194, if the highest FOV available is 100x80 and XVCapture is crashing on image return at that FOV, try the next size down (80x80). If the program freezes on “processing captured images” when at 80x80, the image never returns, and the DICOM file gets stuck in the safety cache, apply everyone > full control to programdata\DCV and programdata\Apteryx.
XVcapture may still appear frozen when processing the image - let it sit for a few minutes, it will eventually return after this change is made.

Unknown Image Return Type Specified '2' error
Appears to be incompatible with direct extension, we get an "unknown image return type specified "2"" error regardless of link type.
Must use TWAIN extension however the same patient info (test patient) appears in the Vatech interface regardless of patient bridged. The same behavior happens in i-view as well. The patientinfo.ini file isn't being updated when the interface is launched via TWAIN is why. Luckily this doesn't impact the image returning to the right patient in XVC though. Ensure the Link Type(s) in the Vatech interface to "TWAIN Link".
Unable to return CTs to XVCapture when using CleverOne
If the client has updated to Vatech’s latest platform CleverOne, and the following error is experienced when attempting to return a CT to XVCapture:
It is recommended to switch to Apteryx Online Capture and utilize the Vatech 3D plugin instead, as the Vatech 3D plugin solely utilizes VCaptureSW - see Vatech 3D - PlanetDDS - Internal Knowledge Base - Confluence for more details.
