NOTE: Unit is TWAIN only. Attempt integration via general TWAIN extension first (TWAIN Capture 11.0.0.1). If unit is already integrated via TWAIN but images are failing to return, or XVCapture crashes on image return, try the below workarounds.
General TWAIN integration
As of April 2025, NewTom has reported they have released a newer TWAIN that works better with XVCapture/Apteryx Online Capture, which should allow for us to use a TWAIN extension/plugin instead of the Image Importer workaround.
This requires icapture version 4.31, with “TwainPatch 1.31” installed alongside a registry fix.
If you find a client utilizing a NewTom unit is using version 4.31 or higher, attempt TWAIN integration as it may work. If not, continue with the below workaround.
Otherwise, they may be able to reach out to NewTom to get the latest TWAIN patch and reg fix implemented in order to get TWAIN integration working.
Contact Brandon Walters at NEWTOM for any help as he is the one who created the workaround and knows how to setup their new twain.
Integration via Image Importer extension (XVCapture only)
(LEGACY INTERFACE - FOR NEWTOM GO/NEWER INTERFACE, SEE NEWTOM GO SECTION BELOW
Before conducting the following steps, please ensure that XVC/DCV/DC is updated to the newest release, cut the Image Importer configs and reinstall the Image Importer extension even if the newest is already installed.
Download Image Importer extension and install it
Create a Pano template if one is not already present (this will need to be created in Progression Editor by creating a progression with one single shot that has all teeth selected)
Open XVCapture > Capture Images > Select Image Importer
Options > Auto Import into Options
Directory: C:\NNT\Temp\Scanner2D (this seems to be universal, but to verify that’s the correct path, you can click on iCapture > settings > check the destination folder location)
Import as: Pan (this will need to be created in Progression Editor)
Modality: CR
-
Find TwainToDisk and add it to the taskbar (located under C:\NNT\TwainToDisk)
Workflow
Click Image Importer instead of TWAIN extension during device selection in XVCapture
Once the import screen is up, click the “twain to disk” icon at the bottom
Go through the capture process as normal
After the Pano is taken, click the blue arrow to return it to the import screen. Then click DONE

Export/Import Workflow
The following workflow can be used as a temporary workaround in the event you run into integration issues that may take awhile to be fixed.
In NNT:
Capture the image in NNT.
Click on File>Save Image As>Click on the Pano (in viewing pane) >make sure dropdown is set to "Treated JPG (*.jpg)>Save to Desktop or desired directory. That will save the image as a jpg.
In XVCapture:
Bring up the patient>Capture Images>Capture Images>Image Importer>Import>Select the Desktop or desired directory>Change the Files of Type: JPEG Image (*.jpg, *.jpeg)>Select image to import>Open>Done.
