Sirona Sensors
Sirona has a couple of rebranded Schick sensors that may include the XG label, but do not use the XG extension. ANY sensors with Sirona branding should be used through the Schick extension NOT the Sidexis 4/XG extensions. Please see the Device Quick Reference page for more info on device support.
Test Program
There is no simplistic way of testing the API, but you can verify that Sidexis is able to launch on its own and capture an image. If it does not, verify Sidexis Service is running in the Task Manager’s Services tab. If it is not able to capture on its own, refer the office to Sirona support.
Sirona Tech ToolBox
This ToolBox can be used to determine if the station in question has all modules and service packages that are needed on Sirona’s end. It can also determine if there is an issue with SQL or connection losses with Sidexis 2 and 4.
Before usage, you will need to register an account. Run the Application and then select the blue Register link and fill out the form. For the phone number you can input 1234567890. An email verification will be sent and once verified you may login to the ToolBox.
In most cases all that would need to be done is to select the Scout function and Start it and if necessary refresh it.
Sirona Hardware Simulator (For Schick sensors/IOSS/Apteryx Online Capture)
Sirona has a simulator that can be used to simulate an actual Schick device, which can be useful when troubleshooting Schick sensor issues in Apteryx Online Capture if you’re unsure if the issue is specific to the hardware being tested.
To install:
Download the zip from here
Mount the “IntraoralSensorSoftware.iso“ and run setup
Install Intraoral Sensor Software
Install the “Intraoral Sensor simulator” provided in the zip
After following those steps start capture and you should see the Schick Simulator in the Apteryx Online Capture device dropdown.
To run their simulator run “Intraoral Sensor configuration app“. Then click on the sensors tab, it should show the simulator. Click it and you can set it up to auto fire or you can manually trigger the sensor.
Sidiin_out.ini error
Verify the unit can capture an image via Sidexis - if unable to capture via Sidexis, refer client to Dentsply Sirona
Verify the newest version of DCV/Capture is in use AND the extension in use was downloaded from the https://apteryximaging.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/4412758829595-Current-Imaging-Downloads. Any existing extensions should be removed
Try the newest Sidexis 4 extension (even if the unit/software is XG) and uncheck the patient ID passing extension option

Sidiin_Output Error - Explanation from Sirona/Sidexis
Additionally, the Sidiin_out.ini error can indicate an issue with the Patient ID causing Sidexis to freeze in the background and not properly launch the patient in the Sidexis capture software to take the image. If you experience this error and the above did not resolve, try modifying leaving the “pass patient ID…” toggle to off and the patient ID or patient information to see if we can isolate the issue to specific patients. Know Support Ticket showing this issue: 512868. There is another ticket out there that Tyler worked with Patterson and Sirona support on with the same issue that he did not locate at this time. Nigel has also experienced this issue. Cannot confirm, but it could be related to a corruption or issue within the Sidexis database and the “Pass Patient ID” checkbox.
08.26.2024 Gerald also ran into this issue. Even with latest versions and granting permissions ETC. However, it was later determined that the interface for the driver had not been closed out when relaunching and, the error would spin up because of this.
If the sidiin_out.ini error only occurs when XVCapture is NOT running as admin:
Check if Sidexis is set to Always Run as Administrator - if it is, this indicates the invoking application (XVCapture in this case) needs to be running as admin in order to communicate with the pano.
-
Navigate to XVCapture’s root folder and set all XVCapture EXEs to always run as administrator
-
If Denticon is in use by the practice, set DenticonBridgeService.Manager.exe to always run as administrator, and set the browser to always run as administrator as well
This will allow Denticon to launch XVCapture as admin via bridge, allowing the pano to communicate with XVCapture when elevation is required.
Sidexis 4 and XrayVision:
If using XrayVision 3/4 with Sidexis 4 installed on the PC, the SironaXG.SED will be needed from compiled (not currently on update page 2/14/19)
Sidexis 2.** crashing XV:
Copy C:\Sidexis and paste the copied version beside it (C:\Sidexis - Copy)
Replace the files in 'C:\Sidexis - Copy' with the files from the zip folder below
Point the capture program to the Sidiin located in C:\Sidexis - Copy
The Sirona prompt will now be in German but will function.
Alternate fix that will change existing Sidexis install:
Copy (not cut) all files (not folders) in C:\Sidexis into a backup folder (C:\Sidexis\Backup)
Copy and replace the files from the zip folder below into the C:\Sidexis directory.
Sidexis CEPH errors out, but panos work:
Try selecting "panoramic" instead of “cephalometric” when prompted by the extension, and have the user capture a ceph.
3D Panoramic:
Sirona 3D Pano - 3D Capture Currently Not Supported
Sirona Failing to Acquire through Denticon
Add the Sidexis path to Environmental Variables (usually C:\Sidexis)
Verify DCV is pointing to the same Sidexis path for the extension as the environmental variable path added
Uninstall the Denticon Bridge Service
Reinstall Denticon Bridge as admin (Use an admin cmd and point to the .msi file to run it as admin)
Reboot

Importing a CBCT from Sidexis 4 to Apteryx
Open Sidexis 4
Select patient
Select exam
Select output button in top center left of screen
Select Volume for third party manufacturers DICOM
The default options Sidexis offers are fine
Choose OK and the CBCT files will be saved into that directory
Open XrayVision DCV/XVCapture
Select Advanced User Tools>Import Images
Select the path where that DICOMDIR is
Select OK
After it has imported you will forward those files up to Apteryx
Bit Depth Issue resulting in distorted image return
Image returned to Apteryx:
Image returned to Sidexis:
This is due to the Sidexis software outputting a 16 bit image when we are expecting an 8 bit image.
Steps to correct (from Sirona) -
In Sidexis Manager (Start > Sidexis (group) > Sidexis Manager) launch XG3D config and the checkbox for 16 bit is in there. Toggle this off and click Save Values.
Also – the Astra software has an impact on the bit depth as well so if it is not present (or malfunctioning) then it may be the culprit.
So if XG3D check in there 1st and if not then look for Astra in the Sidexis Manager / Programs and Features.
Astra function is indicated by 3 small stars at the top right corner of a pan image when taken in Sidexis / TWAIN.
Sirocam Integration with 3rd Party Software
Extension Fails to Connect to Database
Within the SironaXG Extension, if you select Panoramic and receive the error: Sidexis x-ray configuration database cannot be opened. Refer customer to Sirona.
If Sirona was unable to resolve, try running XVCapture as Administrator using the Sidexis XG extension. If the interface is able to populate when run as Admin, configure XVCapture to always run as Administrator.
Acquisition Error - Operation cancelled by user. Process canceled by user.
If this error occurs every time a user attempts to ready their pan unit, have them or their IT provider reboot the local server when possible. There is a component on the local server that the Sirona interface communicates with in some cases, and if the acquisition PC cannot communicate with it for any reason, this error can populate.
Solution reported by a 3rd party technician in Ticket: XVCapture not engaging properly – Planet DDS – Zendesk, verified by T3.
Sirona Tech Toolbox
Came across this toolkit during a support session with another customer.
Dentsply Sirona Utilities - Utilities.DentsplySironaSupport.com
Need to create an account to log in to the utility after downloading+running it, but it had some Sirona-specific tools in there. Might be useful to know.
