Whenever a client updates Dentrix, the Dentrix database, or changes their administrative user’s password, the Dentrix DataDrill will need to be reinstalled in order to reinstate DataGrabber’s access to their Dentrix database. This also resolves the majority of errors the DataDrill is capable of producing, see Dentrix G6.2 DRL for examples.
Instructions:
Have the customer remote you into the server where Dentrix is hosted from
-
Download the DataDrill from our https://apteryximaging.planetdds.com/hc/en-us/articles/4412764698779-Legacy-Downloads page, under Practice Management Bridges (DataDrills)
Close DataGrabber on the server if open (right-click DG > Exit)
Ensure no File Explorer windows are open to the DataGrabber installation directory.
-
Use Computer Management > Shared Folders > Open Files to remotely kill any DG files (Do not kill Dentrix shared files) that are open on workstations.
Use the above link and scroll down to the “Closing Shared Files That Are Open by a Client PC” section if unsure of how.
-
Run the downloaded upgrader as admin
The upgrader may prompt for a username/password or passphrase. Someone from the office will need to fill this or reach out to Dentrix if they are unaware of it.
Run DG on the server. Right click DG > Customize > DataDrills. Verify the Datadrill reflects found patients - if successful, the DataDrill will show “yes” under valid, and show a patient count.
Once done, test DataGrabber on a workstation and verify bridging ability. If errors still populate, run back through the above process from a workstation to force the DataDrill’s connection.
Setting Chart ID or Patient ID for XVCapture & Apteryx
Use Sites, select the Apteryx site in question and download patients CSV. If the majority of IDs in the B column are in the format that starts with letters (e.g. AB1234), the office should be using Chart ID, otherwise use patient ID.
Right Click DG > Customize > DataDrills > double click the Dentrix DRL
Check or uncheck the box for “Use Chart ID as Patient ID” depending on results above.
Right click DG > Close
Reopen DG and verify setting is sticking
Have office restart all workstations that use DG to pick up changes.
