As of 3/19/2026, Automatic Workstation Mapping has been enabled for all Apteryx sites.
The Automatic Mapping feature functions and relies on the following:
An unassigned capture station captures an image, then:
Is there a Location where PMSID = PGID-OID (e.g. 4545-101)
If yes, map to that location
-
If no:
Is there a location with matching Name?
If yes, map to that location
If no: Create new location and set the pmsID value (4545-101)
Duplicate Locations created by Automatic Workstation Mapping
If a client does not have PMSIDs assigned to their existing locations with the format PGID-OID (3158-101 for example), and the location’s name in Apteryx does not match the location’s name in Denticon, a new location with the location’s name from Denticon + PMSID will be created as mentioned above, and the capture station will automatically map to that location.
This can cause issues for clients with AI enabled or that rely on Location Settings, as the newly created location will not have AI enabled and the Location Settings will be default.
Steps on how to correct the existing location, capture station mapping, and how to deactivate the newly created location are as follows:
NOTE: A high priority Feature Request has been submitted to Engineering to build a “Merge” tool in Sites Dash to circumvent the below process. Once released, this section will be updated.
Reconcile locations w/ customer. Figure out which new locations belong to which existing locations. Have customer confirm in ticket. This can also be accomplished via Denticon Admin.
Once you know which existing locations match the new locations, add the PMSIDs (format PGID-OID) to the existing locations and remove them from the new locations.
Update the new location(s) names with an extra character, such as a 2 at the end.
Update the existing location names to match the newly created location names, but without the 2.
Delete the PMSID from the newly created locations if not already done in step 2
Now reassign the capture stations from the newly created locations to the existing locations.
-
Deactivate the newly created locations and submit a request to Engineering to delete the duplicate, newly created locations.
At this point, this should be your state:
- Newly created locations now have no PMSID, a 2 at the end of the location name, no capture stations assigned, and are deactivated.
- Existing locations should now have their name updated to the location name from Denticon. PMSID should also be entered. Capture stations auto-assigned to the duplicate location should now exist here.
- It is important we followed this process properly so that the existing Apteryx location's location settings are still in play, rather than effectively clearing out those location settings by using the newly created location that had default location settings.
