Overview
Starting with Apteryx release (v5.12.0), Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge now require users to grant “Local Network Access” permissions for Apteryx Online Capture to function properly. This change applies to Chrome version 142 and above and Edge version 143 and above, and is essential for initiating image capture workflows within Apteryx.
Why This Change?
Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge have both introduced stricter security measures to protect local resources. Apteryx Online Capture relies on local network communication between your browser and the capture service (Ambassador) installed on your workstation. Without this permission, Apteryx Online Capture cannot start or connect to imaging devices.
What Users Will See
When launching Apteryx Online Capture in Edge or Chrome:
-
A permission prompt will appear asking to allow access to local network resources. Click Proceed to allow the browser to display the Local Network Access prompt.
Click Allow to allow Apteryx Online Capture access to your local area network.
If Allowed, Apteryx Online Capture will start normally.
-
If Blocked, users will see an error message dependent on the browser in use, and capture will not proceed.

Verify that your Apteryx Online Capture installation is up to date.
If issues persist, check for blocked ports or firewall rules that may prevent local communication.
Additional Notes
For enterprise environments, the client’s IT can consider updating Chrome/Edge policies to pre-allow local network access for Apteryx sites.
