Denticon became EHR certified in March 2015.
Denticon has been tested and certified under the Drummond Group's Electronic Health Records Office of the National Coordinator Authorized Certification Body (ONC-ACB) program. This EHR software is compliant in accordance with the criteria adopted by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Drummond Group’s ONC-ACB certification program certifies that EHRs meet the meaningful use criteria for either eligible provider or hospital technology. In turn, healthcare providers using the EHR systems of certified vendors are qualified to receive federal stimulus monies upon demonstrating meaningful use of the technology – a key component of the federal government’s push to improve clinical care delivery through the adoption and effective use of EHRs by U.S. healthcare providers.
The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) is the organization responsible for certifying all Electronic Health Records (HER) products in the United States under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (AARA).
For a software to be EHR certified (there are two agencies that can certify a software application), it must be able to support the "meaningful use" standards. Currently, as of 2012, the standards are entirely designed around medical physicians.
Although it will eventually happen, there are no "meaningful use" standards for dental. It's realistically several years away from potential implementation.
As soon as standards for dental are released, Denticon is committed to be on the forefront of the changes. Denticon, by the nature of its web-based platform, is in a prime position to take advantage of EHR standards. Until then, it is impractical for Denticon to reprogram for EHR certification using medical standards, especially when the eventual dental standards will be different.
A provider's practice needs to be > 30% Medicare to qualify. Since Medicare covers very little dental, only a very small percentage of dentists are eligible. Some of Denticon’s mobile clients will be eligible since they perform Medicare covered services in skilled nursing facilities. However, the number of eligible dental operations is a very small number nationally.
