The duplicated carriers should be reviewed to determine the "best" carrier to keep. Click the word “Setup” and the “Insurance” and “Dental Carriers” options from the drop-down list to locate and review the duplicated carriers.
Update the “best” carrier to ensure that all the necessary information is included (address, phone, payerID). Make note of the carrier ID# that shows in the carrier setup information screen.
Now, locate all the "bad" carrier listings. Make a note of those carrier ID#s.
Click the word “Utilities” and the “Insurance/Procedure” option from the drop-down list.
Then Click "Consolidate Duplicate Carriers".
Input a "bad" carrier ID# in the "Old Carrier ID" field. Input the "best" carrier ID# in the "New Carrier ID" field. Click the Continue button. Confirm the replacement by clicking the Replace button. This will move all the insurance plans that have the "bad" carrier ID# to the "best" carrier ID#. Do this for all the "bad" carrier listings.
Having Duplicate carriers can create errors in incorrect fee posting. For example, if a duplicate carrier is added without assigning a PPO fee schedule, this can cause unnecessary additional work and the billing of the UCR to the ledger instead of the PPO fee. Remember to 'Search First, Add Last' when creating an Insurance Plan and selecting the Carrier. Denticon has many preloaded Carriers to help decrease your Insurance Plan data entry time. Even though the plan may not be in the system, the Carrier may already be there and that's a time saver.
Once the reassignments have been done, re-access Setup/Insurance/Dental Carriers. Locate all the "bad" carriers. Delete the "bad" carrier listings. This should leave you with only one "best" carrier listing.
